Monkey Washing Kitty Cat the ELI excerpt Pt 2
This is Part 2 of the “Eli Potash” section of “Monkey Washing Kitty Cat”, a documentary on outsider music and art in Utah. This is a work in progress (a rough cut) made by Charles Schneider. This is Part 2 of 2 Parts on Eli. Total running time on both parts is 14:40.
Wow. Amazing, interesting, sad and riveting all at the same time. Wow.
I have known him for a while. There is more to the story but it’s still very sad.
A reporter from KUTV profiled him Nov. 9, 2008, and said he is on the street partly because of drugs. There is something about artistic geniuses who seem to become bored or unchallenged and turn to drugs for some kind of stimulation. There are too many examples of this and it’s disconcerting and sad. I wonder if the building of violins wasn’t artistically challenging enough and was the catalyst for his demise?
100 different pieces of wood in a violin. Amazing!
I like music documentaries like this where the film maker just lets the person express themselves without voice overs and over indulgent editting tricks.
