Lace Alumitone pup in Aluminum Guitar at High Volume

I recorded some quick clips at a higher volume than before. The speaker cabinet was in the next room. Microphone is just the video camera mic but it didn’t have a direct line of sight between it and the amp, so the direct sound blast was blocked. … Alumitone Lace pickups Aluminum guitar Veleno Greg Bailey Alice Cooper Bad Cat BadCat HotCat Hot Marshall 1965a

BEAUTIFUL guitar. Reminds me of Matt Bellamy’s Manson.

Custom job based off of a 70s model Veleno.

haha dude i’m really jealous of two things, you have an awesome guitar with stunning looks and great tone, and you get to play with your amp cranked… i live in an apt. complex so my little (pos) isn’t allowed to go passed 1/2 haha, worst of all its just a little marshall 10 watt solid state i hot wired into a 4X8 bass guitar cab with some same guitar amp speaker collected from friends…. lame but not too bad of a sound, your tone is amazing by the way two thumps up for sure.

The P 90 uses alnico 2 or 5,which will create a more complex/compressed/smoother tone.

The ceramic magnets used by the Lace offer almost no compression or softening of pick attack that you get with alnico.

Hey, I just put two Alumitone singles in a SOLID aluminum body strat-style. I’m waiting for the splittable Alumitone humbucker I have on order. So far, using the traditional (wound) splittable with the alumitones is not the sound I want. The alumitones rip though. Your video/playing/tone/etc. is very impressive! Thanks for posting.

You really can’t beat a fifty year old, well played Gibson. The Alumintone sounds very, well, metallic to me. I don’t know if that’s a function of the pick ups or it’s unique body. It would be interesting to hear one of those pickups in the Les Paul Jr., but I’d hardy suggest carving up a relic. The Alumintone reminds me of a dobro, but that might just be my eyes fooling my ears.

Yeah, that’s a 1957 Les Paul Junior that has literally had the snot played out of it over the past 50 years. It sounds awesome through the Bad Cat. I’m still working to find the right voice for the aluminum guitar. It’s in there somewhere but I haven’t figured it out yet. Thanks for listening!

JonnyCapricornNovember 9th, 2009 at 5:50 am

That’s the one and only Veleno, if you have like 20 grand you can buy this thing if you can find one, the guy from Hole has 3

It looks like a James Trussart, they’re pretty cool though very radical looking and a bit pricey. Morello uses some…look them up!!!

jazzbo89November 9th, 2009 at 5:50 am

Thanks for the compliment!

What is the response of this pickups in drives whit a lot of gain, like fuzz and distortion for example?
The lace alumitone it’s a good choice to employ in agresives styles like punk or metal? I’m looking out for a less obvious sound for my guitar, like JB, Super Distortion, etc, etc.
